Kyanite





Kyanite, name derives from the Greek word kyanos, meaning blue. 
Colors of Kyanite Blue, white, light gray, green, rarely yellow, orange, pink.

Significant Gem Localities:-
 
It is mined in a number of places around the globe; major producers are Brazil, Afghanistan, United States, kenya, Madagascar, Mozambique, USA, France, and India. Orange Kyanite is found in Tanzania. 

Kyanite Treatments:-

                                     Pale blue kyanite (also known as cyanite or disthene) is reported to lose its color on heating to 1200°C (Smith et al, 1978) - Nassau (1984)


Hardness of 5.5 parallel to 001 and 7 parallel to 100.
